Desert Island Powercenter

The Desert Island Powercenter is a plug-and-play AC/DC solar electric appliance. The power center is limited to 300 Watts of high quality sine-wave AC power and up to 25 amps of 12 Volt DC power. With the addition of PV modules and deep-cycle batteries, the power center becomes the center of a complete solar electric energy system.

The Desert Island Powercenter is fully pre-wired and assembled, components include: DC and AC circuit breakers for safety and NEC required means of disconnect, 250 Watt maximum 'Maximum Power Point Tracking' (MPPT) PV charge controller, Trimetric 2020 battery voltage and amp-hour meter and a high quality 300W Morningstar 'SureSine' inverter.

The Desert Island Powercenter is ideal for summer and weekend cabins, campsites and remote applications that do not have high power demands. Example loads would include:

  • CFL or LED lighting
  • laptop computers
  • small electronics
  • cordless tool battery chargers
  • coffee grinders and other small electric motors

DC loads such as refrigeration, water pumps and lighting could be integrated into the system as long as the energy demand is included in the sizing of the PV array and battery. The Desert Island system does not include an AC to DC battery charger, so it is not capable of connecting to a generator or the grid to supplement the PV charging during dark or cloudy periods. For this reason we do not recommend the Desert Island system for year-round off-grid living in northern latitudes.
